BLUES ANNOUNCE GATORADE PARTNERSHIP

Continuing our partnership with the world's top brands, Chelsea today announces a new partnership with Gatorade.



We have entered into a three-year deal for Gatorade, the most researched sports drink in the world, to be our official sports drink as of the 2007/8 season.


As part of the relationship, scientists from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) conducted a sweat test with the team during their pre-season tour in the US. Results from these tests will be used to optimise the hydration and performance of the Chelsea players as a group and individually.



'This partnership means much more than working with a great brand. Gatorade is backed by a 40-year history of scientific research that puts it at the forefront of performance, which is where Chelsea wants to be,' said Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon.



Nick Broad, our club nutritionist, added: 'It's exciting to have the opportunity to work with GSSI on joint plans for research and team development. Gatorade has a unique history and its scientific knowledge marks it out as the clear thought leader in sports drinks.'



This partnership is mutually beneficial for Gatorade and Chelsea,' said Simon Lowden, chief marketing officer of PepsiCo International. 'Not only does Chelsea understand the important role that Gatorade plays in keeping athletes performing at their peak, we are able to utilise yet another elite platform to develop our scientific research.



Founded in 1988, the Gatorade Sports Science Institute maintains the Gatorade company's commitment to athletes that began at the University of Florida in the 1960s, when scientists developed Gatorade to help the university's American football team fight fatigue and dehydration.



As part of the new partnership, Gatorade will have matchday sideline presence and be available for Chelsea players' use during training. Gatorade and the GSSI will also have the opportunity to work with the club to educate elite and amateur athletes on the importance of proper hydration.
